A new skill for leaders

Making capabilities explicit is the work of leadership. But it is not theirs alone. It involves:

• Operating level executives establishing guidelines and a clear set of mission objectives and goals to close capability gaps.
• Cross-functional teams aligning the organization on capabilities needed to deliver strategy
• Chief Financial Officers providing a method for aligning investments to capabities required 
• IT and other functional leaders focusing resources on the enabling systems and support infrastructure to deliver capabilities.
